Before I had shin splints, I ran 6-10 miles almost every day and then on Saturday or Sunday, I would do a long run (10+ miles). I wasn't very good at stretching before I ran either. Hence why I ended up getting shin splints.
Well, ever since I had shin splints, it took everything to run between 3-4 miles and I would still be in a little bit of pain.
Well, I now have a 1/2 marathon coming up in about 10 weeks, so yesterday I was determined to run 6 miles. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to do it, but I went up to the gym and guess what? I ran 6 miles!!! Yay!!! I ran it on a treadmill and I ran it at 6.2/mph! Guess what? It didn't hurt either!
I feel like I'm finally making progress from having shin splints, thank God! I just need to remember to stretch before and stretch after and ice down after and I'll be good.
I can't wait to run my 1/2 marathon in July!

6.2 miles Tomorrow
I'm nervous. Tomorrow I need to run 6.2 miles. I haven't run that far in a LONG time. I used to pound out 6.2 miles on a treadmill almost every day until I got shin splints. Shin splints really put a stop to that.
I just signed up for another 1/2 marathon in July. So, I really need to start getting my distance in.
I know I can run 4 miles. I can do that easily. I'm just nervous about running 6 miles. I guess I'll see tomorrow morning how it goes.

26.2 Miles & 1245 Calories Gives Me...
Tonight I went out for a bike ride. The only limit I gave myself was daylight. I would stay out as long as I had daylight.
Well, my bike I had other plans for me. Around mile 25.5, I got a flat tire. So...26.1 miles + 1245 calories = a flat tire. Boo.
I wanted to go further than 26.1 miles 'cause I knew I still had a couple of miles of daylight left, but I was barely able to ride my bike home on the flat tire.
I LOVED being outside on my bike though. I LOVED it!!!
So...this weekend I'm going to attempt to change the tube in my bike all by myself. If not...I know my dad can do it. :)

First Day Back
Today was my first day back to eating healthy and working out. Honestly, it feels like it's been weeks since I've worked out, but I did workout a couple of days last week.
I was concerned today because I didn't get up to go swimming this morning. I didn't get to bed until 1:30 a.m. and I have to get up at 4:30 a.m. to go swimming. I can go swimming on 4 hours of sleep, but getting 3 hours of sleep and then trying to tell your body that 4:30 a.m. is ok to get up to go swim a little over a mile, yeah, that doesn't go over too well.
So, yeah, I was concerned that I'd just eat anything and everything in sight at work today since I didn't workout.
I feel like I did pretty good. I ate breakfast at work, so I had 2 pieces of cinnamon raisin toast with butter and a yogurt and fresh fruit.
I didn't snack at all between breakfast and lunch. Finally lunch came and I had an easy mac & cheese (220 calories) and a salad. I decided to splurge a little bit and I had a tapioca pudding and then I bought a banana for a snack later.
After lunch, I got back up to my desk and someone had pulled some baby carrots out of the fridge and put them out for everybody to snack on! Yay!!! Something I can snack on.
I was really hungry around 4:00 so I had my dinner, which was only 220 calories and it was a microwave pasta thing. The packaging makes it look not too appetising, but it was REALLY good.
I came home and ate 2 oranges and then went straight to the gym. I did 4.4 miles on the eliptical trainer and then did 25 miles on the spinning bike. I went downstairs to go swimming, but every stinkin' changing room was taken. As soon as one changing room was taken, I was getting ready to head in to it, and some lady beat me to it. :( Unfortunately, I'm not like other ladies at the gym and I don't like to bare all out in the open to change my clothes. So...I didn't swim tonight.
My plan tomorrow is to get up at 4:30, go swimming, come home and then swim again (to make up for today) and then bike and run and do weights.
It feels so good to be back on the wagon. :)

Finding a Nutrionist
I think I need to have a consultation with a nutrionist. This past week has really made me start thinking about my eating habits.
With how long I've been doing triathlons and eating differently, I should be able to handle my stress eating and stuff like that better.
When I get depressed, or bored, or stressed, or whatnot, I eat. If I don't workout first thing in the morning, I eat all day and my self control goes out the window. To me, that just isn't right.
So, my question is...does anybody have any suggestions as to how I go about finding a nutrionist?

Tomorrow Is a New Day
Tomorrow is a new day! It's been a few days since I've been able to workout. I've honestly been SO busy that I just haven't had time; therefore I've gained weight. :(
I can't wait until tomorrow morning when I can get up before the rooster crowes & go up to the pool and swim.

Eight Essential Running Tips
I like a blog type thing on Facebook called "I <3 to Run". They posted this today & I find it quite humorous.
I have friends who HATE to run and jokingly/lovingly give me crap every time I do a race & I ask them when they're going to do a race with me. I can SO see my friend Brandon using these excuses.
-----Eight Essential Running Tips------
...Trouble is, when a lot of you otherwise sensible readers see how much verve is to be had while running, you are going to try running yourself. So we also feel it is essential that you bear in mind the "Eight essential tips for the beginner":
1. Loosen up first. The ideal method is to throw back four fingers of scotch. If the urge to jog persists, double the loosening exercise.
2. Check your resting pulse. If you can’t find your pulse, check the pulse of a loved one. This is sometimes called "playing doctor" and, with any luck, will take your mind completely off running.
3. Never run if you are a short person. Short persons are built too close to automobile exhaust pipes. The noxious fumes get into their brains and make them crazy and they try to bite buses, which can be pretty dicey, especially if the bus has not stopped.
4. Always wear - a) a brassier, and b) a jockstrap. (Strike out where inapplicable). The worst jogging injuries result from flopping. Never wear both at once. At least not in public.
5. Children often taunt passing joggers. After a while, you will become accustomed to this and even grow to enjoy it, especially if you carry a golf putter and rap taunting children smartly across the back of the head with it.
6. Dogs can be a threat. If a huge, vicious dog charges you and lunges at your throat, say "There, boy down!". If that doesn't work, show him your membership card from the Humane Society.
7. Set your own pace. If you black out after five minutes, you are probably running too fast. If workman from the city come by and paint you green, you may be running too slow.
8. After running, check your pulse rate again. This time if you can't find it, you are quite possibly dead. Look at it this way: your corpse is sure in great shape.
